If these symptoms sound like the condition of your hair, you can read more about why it might be so dry here.

Quick Remedies for Extremely Dry Hair

Trim split ends.

A hair trim is a quick fix for extremely dry hair. If your hair is dry, it might need a trim to freshen up.

Split ends, especially, can contribute to dryness and even make your hair feel coarse and hard to style.

So, get your stylist to have your hair trimmed and ask for recommendations for styling tricks that prevent your hair from getting damaged.

Skip heat styling.

Heated styling tools might be one of the culprits of extremely dry hair. Excessive use of hot hair tools can make your hair frizzy and dry and can also cause heat damage.

Research suggests there is significant damage to the hair shaft after the use of heated tools.

You can still use hot tools on damp hair once in a while, but it would be wise to stay away from them while treating your dry hair.

Do not wash your hair every day.

Hair washing can clean your hair scalp. However, it can strip your hair’s natural oils resulting in dry, brittle hair.

So, skip shampooing your hair – hair washing every other day is acceptable.

If you really can’t skip shampoo, you can use baby shampoo or shampoo formulated for dry hair as they’re milder and less aggressive.

Dry hair properly.

Wrap your hair instead of air drying. The reason is that when you air dry hair, it tends to lose a lot of moisture which makes the hair dry.

Use a silk pillowcase if you sleep with wet hair. This can prevent your hair’s moisture from getting absorbed into the pillow.

According to a study, leaving your hair wet for too long can be damaging – the same impact as the damage you’ll get when you’re using the blow dryer or curling iron.

Do not use hot water when hair washing.

A hot shower sounds like an idea! But not so much for your hair as it can cause frizz and dryness.

Cold water can help retain hair moisture and seals the hair cuticle, which prevents dryness.

So, after shampooing and conditioning your hair, rinse with cold water for a minute or two to revitalize your hair.

Hair Treatment for Extremely Dry Hair

Hair Oil Massage

Hair oils are an effective treatment for dry hair. Hair oils like argan oil, olive oil, and jojoba oil moisturize hair and also reduces frizz due to dryness.

However, when choosing hair oil, you should choose oils that contain saturated and monosaturated fats as they work better on your hair.

Still, there’s not much info about the efficacy of hair oils on dry hair. But it wouldn’t hurt to try anyway!

Deep Conditioning

A deep conditioning mask is one of the most effective dry hair treatments.

Deep conditioning your hair 3 to 4 times a week can prevent dryness and keep your hair healthy and damage-free.

A perfect deep conditioning treatment for hair that is prone to dryness would be coconut oil. It contains moisturizing ingredients that penetrate the hair fibers and improves the overall appearance of your hair. You can deep condition with a warm coconut oil hair mask once a week for better results.
