I noticed that the curler gets a little warm to the touch when configured to the highest setting. Unless you curl your hair on a daily basis, you might wind up burning yourself if the barrel is too close to the scalp. When I curled my hair, I always wore the gloves that came with the kit. The gloves made it much easier to curl near the base of the hair strands.
